Huichol Art
Huichol artwork is known for using bright colorful yarn or beads to illustrate symbols and designs on to bords, masks or figurines. The symbols and designs used in this art are highly nature inspired and date back centuries. The most popular Huichol art form is yarn paintings, yarn is pressed into boards coated with wax and resin. The deigns and symbols from a tablet called a nierika, the nierika relates stories and or visions and are often used in religious ceremonies. Beadwork art is another favored form of Huichol art. The Huichol have a long history of beading, making the beads from clay, shells, corals, seeds and more and using them to make jewelry and to decorate bowls and other items. Bead art usually consists of masks and sculptures covered in small, brightly colored beads fastened with wax and resin.
