Mexican folkloric creatures that can take the shape of mythical, fantastic and natural form. Originally made of paper mache in Mexico City and credited to artist Pedro Linares who had a vivid dream of these fantastic creatures. Alebrijes are still made from paper mache but have become more popular fabricated of Copal wood from the state of Oaxaca. Alebrijes are also brightly and elaborately hand painted, the ornate paint work of the artist being just as striking as the figurine.
